The musical’s influence is global, with over 5 million viewers worldwide across productions in North America, Japan, Germany, and on Royal Caribbean Cruises; a French production is also in development. The show has earned prestigious accolades, including Olivier, WhatsOnStage, and Broadway World awards for Best New Musical.
Creative Team
Based on the iconic Universal Pictures/Amblin Entertainment film, the stage adaptation features a book by Bob Gale and a score by Grammy winners Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard. The soundtrack blends new material with cinematic classics like “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B. Goode.”
Under the direction of Tony Award-winner John Rando, the production features a world-class design team:
Design: Tim Hatley (Sets/Costumes), Tim Lutkin & Hugh Vanstone (Lighting)
Effects: Chris Fisher (Illusions), Finn Ross (Video), Gareth Owen (Sound)
Movement & Music: Chris Bailey (Choreography), Nick Finlow (Musical Supervision), and orchestrations by Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook.
Legacy of the Franchise
The original 1985 film, starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, recently celebrated its 40th anniversary. The trilogy remains a powerhouse of popular culture, with a combined original global box office of $936.6 million—equivalent to over $1.8 billion today.
Back to the Future The Musical is produced by a collaborative team led by Colin Ingram, alongside Robert Zemeckis, Bob Gale, and the Frankel/Viertel/Baruch/Routh Group.
