Pre-Theatre Dining Tips
When to Book
Pre-theatre menus typically run from 4pm or 5pm until 6:30pm or 7pm. If your show starts at 7:30pm, aim to be seated by 5:30pm at the latest to allow time to eat, pay and walk to the theatre.
For popular restaurants (Hawksmoor, 20 Stories, The Ivy), book at least a week ahead, especially for Friday and Saturday evenings.
Tell Them You’re Going to the Theatre
When you book, mention what time your show starts. Good restaurants will pace your meal accordingly and won’t leave you anxiously checking your watch.
Matinee Shows
For afternoon performances (usually 2:30pm), an early lunch works well. Or see the show first and enjoy a leisurely dinner afterwards – most restaurants welcome post-theatre diners too.
ATG Membership Perks
Some restaurants offer discounts or extras for ATG members. Zouk gives you a free drink, and it’s worth asking at other venues too.
