“A masterclass in optimism… proper, old-fashioned escapism.” — LondonTheatre1

Manchester’s Palace Theatre provides the perfect, grand backdrop for the story of the world’s most famous orphan. Annie arrives this June for a two-week residency, bringing with it a “first-class” production that has delighted millions globally. Set against the gritty backdrop of 1930s New York, this Tony® award-winning musical remains a “hardy perennial” that refuses to die—and quite right too.

The Principal Cast

This production is anchored by a powerhouse professional cast. Alex Bourne returns as the billionaire Oliver Warbucks, a role he plays with a “patrician and statesman-like” authority. For the Manchester run, the role of the gin-soaked Miss Hannigan is played by the sensational drag superstar La Voix (Strictly Come Dancing, Britain’s Got Talent), who brings a unique “energy and brio” to the orphanage matron.

The company also features Tanisha-Mae Brown as the poised Grace Farrell, Christian Cooper as the slippery Rooster Hannigan, and Amber Kennedy as Lily St. Regis. They are supported by a superb ensemble including Jack Buchanan, Harrison Burley, and Zoë Canham, alongside a rotating team of “delightful urchins” who carry the show’s iconic choreography with professional precision.

The Award-Winning Creative Team

  • Director – Nikolai Foster: The Artistic Director of Curve has crafted a production that “screams West End quality” and maintains incredible energy throughout.
  • Choreography – Nick Winston: Winston’s dynamic movement for the orphans is a genuine standout, filling the stage with life during every chorus.
  • Set & Costume Design – Colin Richmond: The ingenious “jigsaw” set design serves as a metaphor for Annie’s journey, transitioning seamlessly from the orphanage to the 5th Avenue mansion.
  • Lighting & Sound: With atmospheric lighting by Ben Cracknell and punchy sound design by Adam Fisher, the score—including Tomorrow and Hard-Knock Life—sounds better than ever.
