Strap in for the smash hit Back to the Future The Musical as part of its first ever UK tour with rising Australian star Axel Duffy returning as Marty McFly.
Winner of Best New Musical at the Olivier Awards, WhatsOnStage Awards and Broadway World Awards, this “perfect musical escapism” (Metro) is ready to take you on an electrifying journey through time. Based on the iconic 1985 movie and brought to the stage by the film’s original creators Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis, this multi-award-winning production is dazzling critics and thrilling audiences across the globe – and now it’s Southampton’s turn to experience the ride of a lifetime. When teenager Marty McFly is accidentally sent back to 1955 in a time machine built by the eccentric Doc Brown, he disrupts the space-time continuum and must race against the clock to put things right – and get back to the future. Don’t miss this “high-voltage comedy” (Metro) and “feelgood triumph” (Telegraph), directed by Tony Award-winner John Rando and featuring a show-stopping DeLorean that “defies the laws of theatre” (Guardian). Back to the Future the Musical features original music by multi-Grammy winners Alan Silvestri (Avengers: Endgame) and Glen Ballard (Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror), alongside hit songs from the movie including The Power of Love, Johnny B. Goode, Earth Angel and Back in Time. “It’s a total blast” (Metro), and when this baby hits 88mph, it will zap “the audience between the eyes and ears to a roar of delight” (Variety).

Review of Back to the Future The Musical at Manchester Opera House
By Chris Omaweng / July 13, 2024
The manner in which the Doc climbs up to a clock tower in a late scene had me in stitches (for all the right reasons), while the costumes throughout the show fit whatever time period the narrative is in at any given point. And this isn’t the kind of production to get frustrated about with regards to not being in chronological order – it’s about time travel! It’s not quite 1.21 gigawatts (if you know, you know) of theatrical power, but this is an ambitious and delightful production.

Not only does the orchestra elevate our favourite films to new heights, but seeing them projected in such surroundings as the Royal Albert Hall allows them to be truly special and memorable occasions.
